Vanilla Sponge Cake
Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- Pinch of salt
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Add the flour, baking powder, and salt to the wet ingredients. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread evenly.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Optional Glaze:
- If desired, mix 1/2 cup powdered sugar with 1-2 tablespoons of milk until smooth. Drizzle over the cooled cake.
