Patty Melts with Secret Sauce

Patty melts with secret sauce are a delicious treat! Here’s a simple recipe to make them

Ingredients:

For the patty:

  • Ground beef (or your choice of ground meat)
  • Salt and pepper
  • Butter or oil for cooking

For assembling:

  • Sliced bread (rye or sourdough works well)
  • Sliced cheese (Swiss or cheddar are traditional choices)
  • Caramelized onions
  • Butter for grilling

For the secret sauce:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon mustard (Dijon or yellow)
  • 1 tablespoon pickle relish (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Make the Secret Sauce:
    • In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, pickle relish (if using), Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Adjust seasoning to taste. Set aside.
  2. Prepare the Patty:
    • Season the ground beef with salt and pepper.
    • Shape the meat into patties that are slightly larger than your bread slices, as they will shrink when cooked.
    • Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add a bit of butter or oil.
    • Cook the patties for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  3. Caramelize the Onions:
    • In the same skillet, add a bit more butter if needed and cook thinly sliced onions over medium heat until they are soft and golden brown, about 10-15 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  4. Assemble the Patty Melts:
    • Butter one side of each slice of bread.
    • Place a slice of bread, butter side down, on the skillet over medium heat.
    • Spread a generous amount of the secret sauce on the bread.
    • Place a slice of cheese on top of the sauce.
    • Add a cooked patty on top of the cheese.
    • Spoon caramelized onions over the patty.
    • Add another slice of cheese on top of the onions.
    • Spread more secret sauce on another slice of bread and place it on top of the sandwich, butter side up.
  5. Cook the Patty Melts:
    • Grill the sandwiches on each side until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted, about 3-4 minutes per side. Press down gently with a spatula while grilling to help everything meld together.
  6. Serve:
    • Remove from heat and let cool for a minute or two before slicing diagonally.
    • Serve hot, optionally with pickles or a side of fries.

Enjoy your delicious patty melts with secret sauce! They’re perfect for a comforting meal or a casual get-together.
