French Toast

French toast is a classic breakfast dish that’s easy to make and delicious to eat. Here’s a simple recipe for French toast:

Ingredients:

  • 4 slices of bread (thick slices work best, like Texas toast or brioche)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • Butter or cooking oil, for frying
  • Maple syrup, powdered sugar, or fresh fruits (for serving, optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the egg mixture:
    • In a shallow bowl or pie dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract (if using), and ground cinnamon (if using). Mix until well combined.
  2. Heat the griddle or skillet:
    • Heat a large non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add a little butter or cooking oil to coat the surface.
  3. Dip the bread slices:
    • Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, turning to coat both sides evenly. Allow the bread to soak in the mixture for a few seconds on each side, but do not oversaturate or it may become soggy.
  4. Cook the French toast:
    • Place the soaked bread slices onto the preheated skillet or griddle. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Flip carefully with a spatula to ensure even cooking.
  5. Serve:
    • Once both sides are golden brown and the egg is cooked through, transfer the French toast slices to a plate.
  6. Optional toppings:
    • Serve hot with toppings of your choice such as maple syrup, powdered sugar, fresh fruits, or whipped cream.

Tips:

  • Use slightly stale bread for better absorption of the egg mixture.
  • Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less sugar to the egg mixture, or by using flavored bread like cinnamon raisin or challah.
  • If cooking in batches, keep the cooked French toast warm in a low oven (around 200°F or 95°C) while you finish cooking the rest.

Enjoy your homemade French toast! It’s a comforting and satisfying breakfast that’s perfect for any morning.
